We spend our 30 minute class singing, chanting, moving, dancing, listening, and playing simple instruments-- all activities that bridge the natural connection between music and movement for coordination, body awareness and control. With their grown-up, kids as young as birth learn music principals in a safe environment for exploration of space, and instruments such as rhythm sticks, jingles and drums, and parents get important bonding time and with their child.

Children are naturally drawn to music.  By engaging your children in music classes you are not only giving them a “leg-up” on their musical development but on all other educational pursuits as well.  And since Musikgarten involves the whole family, there are positive social implications as well. As we sing, bounce, rock, dance, and play instruments together we are laying the foundation necessary for success in music, and you will delight in the endless energy of your children as they develop in this wonderful, musical environment!

The Cycle of Seasons curriculum celebrates preschooler’s growing independence and love of the outdoors with activities involving the four seasons. Developed to build attention and self-expression, activities include singing, chanting, moving, focused listening, musical games, exploring musical instruments, creative movement and storytelling. The Cycle of Seasons nurtures a growing child’s ability to use language and participate in dramatic play within a musical context.

Fun family packets including wonderful music CDs are included for use at home to increase family involvement in the learning process.

All Together Now: Mixed Ages

Mixed age classes allow families with limited time to all come to the same class and give an opportunity to develop a shared repertoire of music and childhood games. .

Nimble & Quick and Twist & Turn are based on nursery rhymes – the beloved poems and chants handed down from generation to generation! Nursery rhymes have the staying power of a lasting art form. They offer today’s children the wisdom of the ages as well as what current research and practice tell us children need: communication, movement, interaction, repetition, and cultural customs – all experienced in a playful way.

MAKING MUSIC WITH FRIENDS

This after-school program offers beginner lessons on several instruments and a chance for young ladies to develop their singing voices. Starting with whole body warm-ups and ear training exercises at each lesson, students will learn healthy vocal technique and expand their listening skills and music appreciation in a safe, encouraging environment. We explore several musical genres including Americana, Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Folk, and World music, and explore writing our own songs. Students gain skills in music through fun singing and rhythm games, learning songs, and they get to help choose their repertoire. With access to piano, guitar, ukulele, and percussion instruments, students experiment in music with their peers during this 10-week session.

Co-ed Guitar Class

This beginner acoustic guitar class includes learning about the instrument, how it works and how to maintain it, and a few simple chord shapes. We will combine strumming and fingerpicking styles with different rhythm patterns, and learn songs together. Students are encouraged to contribute to their repertoire by bringing songs they want to learn. QCMS offers ¾ size student-model guitars for rent for an additional fee for the 10-week session, or students are certainly welcome to bring their own instrument.
