Brian's Biography

Brian Fuller was born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and his love for Music and the Arts began at a young age. At 10 years old, Brian began playing Double Bass and was invited to attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, in their High School Music Program at age 12. There, he studied Classical Double Bass in their Music Department for 7 years. “This was an intensive music conservatory atmosphere where I performed in Symphonies, Pit Orchestras, chamber music, and solo studies, as well as studies in theory, ear training and music history. I also attended The Eastern Music Festival for 4 summer seasons, which was an intensive Orchestra rep program, performing standard orchestra repertoire concerts on a weekly basis. “Growing up in the arts school environment exposed me to all aspects of the arts. There, Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Drama and Theater Production were a part of every-day life, and that collaborative artistic atmosphere set me on a path of a lifetime in the arts.”

After a year of college in Music, Brian’s interests expanded to Theatrical Production in the School of Design and Production where he specialized in Technical Direction and earned a BFA in Theatrical Production. After several years of touring, he spent 6 years as the Production Manager for Triad Stage in Greensboro, and served as the Production and Facilities Manager at the UNCG Auditorium, a 1600 seat venue and the heart of the UNCG campus. “There, I oversaw all aspects of production for events ranging from University events and concerts to National touring acts, Orchestra concerts, Dance performances and student events.” Over the last few years, Brian has served as the Technical Director for Piedmont Opera Theatre in Winston-Salem, and then as Production Manager for their most recent opera, Joan of Arc: the trial at Rouen. As a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Brian has worked as a Stagehand, Rigger, and multiple other positions on arena and outdoor concerts and festivals of all kinds over his 30-year career in his field.

Brian offers lessons for beginner and intermediate players on upright bass and ukulele, and has been integral to growing Queen City Music Studios’ House Concert Series and community event offerings. Brian has also joined the board of Directors for Staunton Jams, as the head of Production. “It is an honor to be part of the awesome team that brings such an incredible community building music festival to the Staunton downtown area. I am also excited about joining the QCMS team as Director of Events.”
