Kate's Biography

A native of Staunton, VA, Kate Harrington is Soprano with a wide range of musical interests, and a passion for early music and ensemble singing. She grew up singing in choirs at Trinity church in Staunton, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Music from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC. Since graduating, she has performed as a soloist and in ensembles in Boston, California, Virginia, and the UK. She has also had over a decade of combined experience as a pipe organ builder for Taylor and Boody in Staunton, and C.B. Fisk Organbuilders in Gloucester, MA. Kate recently moved back to her beloved hometown of Staunton, and currently sings in the Schola Cantorum at St. Paul's in Ivy, VA, while working in the College of Education at James Madison University.

While she enjoys singing in a variety of genres such as folk, classical, and modern music, Kate’s expertise is in the historical performance practices of renaissance polyphony and baroque music, and she is dedicated to performing any piece of music with its cultural and historical context in mind. Kate wants to empower singers of all ages to access their ability to sing with joy and confidence, and with an emphasis on sustainable and healthy technique that can be used across any genre.
